Penguin Chillers are constructed using high grade materials to quickly and efficiently chill liquids. It doesn't matter if it's freshwater, saltwater, or even glycol, if you pump it through one of our chillers it's going to get cold all the same.

We design our chillers with oversized titanium coils, the extra surface area allows for faster and more efficient cooling. The typical chiller being imported from China is designed with the bare minimum coil surface area, which means the unit will need to run longer, and work harder to accomplish the task.

Yet our chiller typically cost less because you are buying direct from the manufacturer, there are no middle men here!

Dare to Compare:

(we've done side by side testing on both of these chillers)

Active Aqua 1/2HP

Advertises 4100btu, We tested it and it only came in at 3065 BTU/hr. Not much of a surprise when the compressor being used is a 3100 BTU/hr compressor.... How do they get away with this stuff?

Less efficient- 6.95 BTU per watt

Made in China

1 year warranty, and if something it breaks - who do you send it to? The seller? The manufacturer? Is the seller even authorized to sell? Will the manufacturer honor the warranty when purchased through that particular seller?

Penguin Chiller 1/2HP

5000 BTU/hr advertised, (5248 BTU/hr actual) - We have 70% MORE cooling power!

12.74 BTU per watt - Almost 2x moreefficient

Made in America

1 year warranty, we are the manufacturer, end of story

Best of all - Less Expensive!!!

Sizing:

There is not a one-size fits all answer for how to size a chiller, every setup is unique. At a minimum we need to know ambient temperature, volume of liquid, heat load/application, and goal temperature to begin to determine what size chiller is needed. For some applications our 1/2HP chiller might be able to get 200gallons down to 40F. Yet there are applications that the 1/2HP might not be able to chill 5 gallons lower than 85F.

The chiller does not have an endless amount of cooling power, it does 5,000BTU/hr worth of work. This is a direct measurement of cooling power and this is what you should compare when comparing chillers. The horsepower rating of most small chillers in the consumer marketis largely a made up figure. It's not the best measurement to compareamong chiller. If you look at 3 different 1/2HP chillers you will likely find 3 different BTU/hr ratings meaning they are not the same despite all being called 1/2HP.

With several variables at play, the best way to size a chiller is by experience. Either you are replacing a chiller and you know the BTU/hr that is required, you know of someone with success on a similar application and know their chiller specs, or you provide us with some information about your application and we do our best to assist.
